While we all have our own opinions of motorcycles from the adamantly opposed to the idea in general to those who can’t live without one and everybody in between, there are some rules that every biker must follow or reap the whirlwind. To stay within the good graces of the law you must be willing to follow a few legalities that even the most hardcore biker can’t escape. Here are a few things for you to keep in mind when you climb up on your bike and hit the road next time.
First off, you must have a motorcycle driver’s license, which could be extremely easy or moderately difficult for you to attain. The government has a few requirements that you will have to overcome to be able to be licensed to drive your motorcycle or you can go a much easier route and take advantage of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation usually offers a course that will prepare you for your travels on your bike and at the end will provide an endorsement on your license that will allow you to ride. Just make sure that you do one or the other because you don’t want to get pulled over without one!
Obviously, the second thing that you MUST have before you hit the road with your motorcycle is insurance for the bike that you will be riding. This isn’t unlike driving your actual car, it is actually the exact same, you cannot get on the road without being covered … period! The process of getting insured on your motorcycle is not very difficult as you can simply log on to the internet these days and have businesses lining up to insure you and your bike! Make sure to shop around between the usual Progressive, GEICO, and other major insurance carriers to get the best quote possible.
While it may seem that there are a ton of things to do before you are ready to get out on the road, this is actually all that is required to start your engines!
