Standard Motorcycles and Cruisers

Whenever you choose to become a part of any kind of field that is usually populated by hardcore fans of that field the initial steps of becoming involved can be intimidating. Much like starting work at a job with a group of people who have worked together for ages, you are entering a field with a plethora of inside jokes and terminology that stumps you from the first minute. In an effort to speed up your initiation into this group of hardcore enthusiasts in the field of motorcycles the following are a couple of different types of motorcycles you may come across while deciding on what is to be your first motorcycle.

Standard Motorcycles are what most of us see on the roadways and in classes that you may take to prepare for the road when you are preparing to purchase a bike. These are the motorcycles that people are riding when you see them riding in a manner where their back is straight up and down. These bikes aren’t too large like a cruiser or too small like a street or racing bike, they are more suited for everyday driving in the city and not too much long-distance driving. You may run into confusion with some people when referring to a standard bike because there is no true definition of a “standard” bike, so don’t be upset if you are confused in the beginning.

The motorcycles that people refer to as Cruisers are those that you see on the roadways that look, and actually are very, expensive. They tend to sit quite a bit lower to the ground and make the driver look a lot more like they are reclining than sitting on a bike and driving. The front tire isn’t as big and bulky as the back on a cruiser, which allows the driver to be a little more comfortable on bumpy roads and potholed areas. You will generally think of a cruiser when you think of a Harley as it is of the type that is built more for flash than speed.
