There is a great deal for you to be prepared for if you are purchasing or looking to purchase a motorcycle, but there is almost equally as much for you to prepare for once you get the bike. You can get all the other items that you need like insurance or a roadside assistance plan and you can have your cell phone, but all those things could still fall through as well, it is important that you know your bike as well. Those who take the time to read their owner’s manual and take its advice will be in a much better situation than those who won’t.
If you are simply infatuated with motorcycles and don’t have much knowledge of the bikes other than knowing you would like to ride one then you should take a little time to educate yourself. Whether it is going to a local meeting of motorcycle enthusiasts, speaking to an expert at a motorcycle dealer, or simply reading the manual from front to back you need to know what is going on with your bike. Most important is reading the manual to find out if there are any tools in particular that the maker recommends you keep on hand for sudden repairs. If you are prepared it helps even if you can’t fix the problem yourself, you never know who could drive by during your time of need!
Keep all of these items together in a specific area of your bike or on your person when you are taking your bike out to make sure that you are prepared in ANY situation. Sure, you may think you are just out to drive down the street and get a tasty beverage, but who knows what could happen while you are out. It never hurts to be prepared for everything! Take a little initiative to see if you can find out from fellow motorcyclists on the internet or locally to see what the word is on your bike in relation to what its problems may be. After all, you invested a lot in this bike you might as well take care of it!
