Be Smart, Wear a Helmet

You don’t want to do it because it isn’t the look of someone who is living on the edge and is effectively throwing caution to the wind, but it is the look of someone who doesn’t want their brains to be scooped off the asphalt. What look is this that I am speaking of? The look of wearing a helmet while you are on your “throw caution to the wind” or “I am that guy that George Thorogood was talking about” machine that races down the highway in impressive fashion. It doesn’t look cool and probably doesn’t attract the ladies right off of the bat, but it does guarantee that you will be able to get off of that bike and speak to the lady to show her what you have on the inside … just as good … right?

The very idea is contradictory to those who want to get out and be a rebel without a cause, but shouldn’t staying alive be a cause for anybody regardless of your choice of transportation? Statistics are not even close to being murky or in the proverbial “gray” area that we speak of when we try to justify making a decision that is not the most intelligent in the world. Statistics will be straight up and honest with you in showing that those who wear a helmet are much more likely to survive and recover from a crash than those who don’t.

You can be as belligerent and ridiculous as you want to bring any amount of variables in the situation to show that you can survive without wearing a helmet and you’d be right. You can survive a crash without wearing a helmet, but your quality of life will be average at best instead of having the ability to return to normal as you were before the crash. You are not exempt from wearing a helmet regardless of where you are, even though you may have a reason to avoid doing so from philosophical grounds.
